Frequently Asked Questions

Simple answers to
real questions.

We've been doing this long enough to know what you're going to ask. Here's what we know — and we'll tell you what we don't.

Products & Ordering
What is a back plate?

Backplates hold your nameplate to the wall and let you maintain consistency throughout your office. When a new staff member is hired, you remove the nameplate, leaving the backplate on the wall, and install the new one in the same position every time.

What if my name is too long?

If your name is too long you'll notice the font gets smaller as you type, which can take you away from your building standards. Place the order anyway — our staff will make the standard correction and send you a proof before proceeding.

Can I order custom sizes?

Yes and no. We're always happy to accommodate custom sizes for larger orders (over 100 pieces). Our purpose is to keep it simple while still offering enough choices to create your own unique look. Send us your request and we'll let you know what we can do.

Can I have a custom colour?

Yes for larger quantities (over 100 units), no for individual items. Just reach out and let us know what you're thinking — we'll tell you what we can offer.

Where are your products made?

The vast majority of our products are fabricated in North America. All of our metal and plastic products are manufactured in Canada and the United States. We strive to buy local — and to us that means North America.

Can I pick my order up?

No. Simple, eh.

Do I need a vinyl backup?

Vinyl backups are used when installing nameplates on glass where the sign is visible from the back. The vinyl backup is installed to the glass first, then the sign, so you don't see the mounting tape from the other side.

Mounting & Installation
What type of mounting method should I choose?

Whenever possible we recommend a fixed mounting method — something your staff can't move. We've seen it time and time again: a large quantity of nameplates installed looking fantastic, only to be moved around, inserts hanging out, a mess a couple of months later.

Double Sided Tape — Works well on almost any smooth surface. In common areas where the public has access, we recommend 3M VHB for its super strong hold.

Velcro — Usually only used on fabric workstation dividers. You'd only get the hook side, which grips the fabric. Best to order a sample first.

Aluminum clips — Hook onto workstation dividers for a clean look. They only fit one way, making it easier to keep a consistent appearance.

Magnet — Excellent for metal (not aluminum) cabinets or divider trim. Easier to install, but staff can move them around — what starts as a clean look on day one can become a visual mess by day 120.

Acrylic clips — Mounting clips that hang over the top of office dividers.

VHB double sided tape — Used when a really strong installation is required, such as office directories and cut letters.

What is the set screw for?

Set screws lock the faceplate to the backplate so it can't be moved accidentally (if mounted to a door that slams) or intentionally by staff.

Can I do my own installation?

For the most part, yes. We have instructional videos for most of our products and they're manufactured to make installation straightforward. Pin mounted letters and logos are probably better left to a professional unless you have facilities staff comfortable with drilling. Have a look in our video section for the relevant installation video and decide from there. We can also source installation companies for you.

What about pins?

We hate pins. It's not a phobia or anything — we know there are circumstances where they're necessary (though we can't think of any). Some clients ask for them, so we carry them. Why do we hate them? They're moveable, so staff move them, and when they do they poke holes in your expensive office dividers. You've been warned.

Accounts & Registration
Who is a reseller?

A reseller is someone whose business it is to buy products wholesale and resell them. If you're buying our products and are the intended user, you are not a reseller — even if you work in one of these industries:

  • Sign companies
  • Designers
  • Office furniture distributors
  • Brokers
Why should I register as a property manager?

Registration lets us create your own product page with all of your regular tenant signs set up to your building standards. You can easily add new tenant names to on-file templates, provide tenants with proofs, and access all previous purchases and custom signs in one place.

Why should I register as a reseller?

Reseller registration gives you access to preferred pricing and keeps track of previous orders to make the reorder process much faster.
